A 16-year-old Brooklyn teenager was taken into custody Tuesday morning in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this month. Tristan Hightower had been sought by police since April 12, when he allegedly shot and killed 43-year-old Jamal Davis inside an apartment complex at 75 Cumberland Walk in East New York.
According to authorities, the shooting stemmed from a dispute between Hightower and Davis over smoking marijuana. The confrontation escalated quickly, resulting in the deadly gunfire at approximately 10:52 a.m. that day. Emergency responders pronounced Davis dead at the scene.
The arrest brings a resolution to a tense manhunt that had gripped the neighborhood in recent weeks. Police had urged the public for tips and warned about the dangers of escalating conflicts involving firearms. The case has heightened concerns about youth violence and gun access in Brooklyn.
Community leaders and local officials have called for increased support for at-risk youth and better conflict resolution resources to prevent such tragedies. Meanwhile, the investigation continues, and Hightower faces charges related to the shooting. The incident underscores ongoing challenges in addressing gun violence in New York City’s outer boroughs.
