The Metropolitan Museum of Art has unveiled its first immersive digital art installation by Tokyo-based collective teamLab, known globally for their boundary-pushing fusion of art and technology. Titled ‘Eternal Bloom: A Living Canvas,’ the installation transforms the museum’s Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden into a dynamic, interactive environment.
Visitors are invited to engage with the installation’s constantly evolving digital flora and fauna, which react to movement and presence, blurring the lines between observer and artwork. teamLab’s co-founder, Toshiyuki Inoko, highlighted the installation’s theme of interconnectedness and impermanence, concepts resonant with New York’s ceaseless energy and diversity.
The Met’s director, Max Hollein, called the collaboration a milestone for the institution’s effort to embrace digital art forms and attract younger, tech-savvy audiences. The installation runs through October, promising a unique cultural experience that marries tradition with cutting-edge innovation.
