Chef Elena Martinez, a two-time Michelin-starred culinary innovator, has unveiled her latest project—a farm-to-table restaurant in Harlem called ‘Roots & Rise.’ Nestled in a renovated 19th-century brownstone on Frederick Douglass Boulevard, the restaurant champions locally sourced ingredients from New York State farms, urban gardens, and indigenous growers.

Roots & Rise offers a seasonal menu that celebrates the diversity of New York’s agricultural bounty with dishes like heirloom beet tartare and Hudson Valley trout with spruce tips. The restaurant’s design incorporates reclaimed wood and natural elements, reinforcing its ethos of sustainability and connection to the earth. Chef Martinez said, “Harlem’s rich cultural history and community are the perfect backdrop for a restaurant that honors heritage and innovation.”

Beyond dining, Roots & Rise plans to host monthly workshops on sustainable cooking and urban farming, aiming to engage the neighborhood and inspire a new generation of food lovers. Food critics have hailed the opening as a landmark moment for Harlem’s evolving culinary scene and a bold statement in farm-to-table dining.
